Soo Chow Jade is named after the city in China where it was carved during the Qing Dynasty. It is not really "jade" as in jadite at all, but a very similar stone which is translucent, and usually green with an oily luster. It is very tough, making it an ideal, cost-effective, substute to real jade beads.
